The Philadelphia 76ers had a massive offseason with multiple blockbuster moves, including signing LeBron James and trading for longtime Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown. The Sixers held their media day on Monday and Philadelphia guard VJ Edgecombe revealed an interesting story about how he found out about the 76ers-Celtics trade. Brown is coming off his best individual season since entering the NBA in 2016, posting career highs in points (28.7), rebounds (6.9) and assists per game (5.1), among other categories.
Brown made his fourth consecutive All-Star team and fifth of his career, was named Second Team All-NBA for the second time and finished sixth in the NBA MVP voting. "JB" led Boston to a surprising No. 2 seed in the NBA playoffs last season despite seeing Jayson Tatum sidelined for much of the campaign as he recovered from his Achilles injury, but the Celtics were upset by Edgecombe's Sixers in the first round of the postseason. Brown was shipped to Philadelphia in July in exchange for 36-year-old nine-time All-Star Paul George and a host of future draft picks.
George spent two seasons with the 76ers, including Edgecombe's 2025-26 rookie year. The 2025 third overall pick had a huge debut campaign, averaging 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per contest and finished third in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting. Brown and James join a loaded Philadelphia starting five that also includes Edgecombe, two-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey and former MVP center Joel Embiid.
