What we do

Most Azerbaijani-language news covers Azerbaijan. Very little covers the rest of the world in Azerbaijani. That is the gap Sözaltı Xəbər exists to fill: international reporting — world affairs, markets, science, technology, sport and culture — made readable for an Azerbaijani audience, alongside an English edition for everyone else.

We are an aggregator, not a newsroom. We do not write original reporting, and we do not claim to. Every story carries its source and links back to the original publisher.

How it works

1

Collect

RSS feeds from 50 outlets are polled continuously and de-duplicated by URL. Each category rebuilds every five minutes.

2

Clean

Feed text arrives full of photo credits, gallery controls and newsletter promos. We strip that furniture out so the summary is the actual summary.

3

Translate

Headlines and summaries are translated into Azerbaijani automatically. Machine translation is imperfect — proper nouns especially. Sources already publishing in Azerbaijani are never translated.

4

Publish

Every story gets a permanent page in both languages, enters the archive, and appears in the RSS feeds and sitemaps.

Who we are

Sözaltı Xəbər is the independent Azerbaijani-language news service of Sözaltı, the platform publishing in Azerbaijani since 2012. It is edited from New York. We monitor 30 international outlets continuously, translate what matters into Azerbaijani, and publish it within minutes of the original — free, with no paywall and no account required.

The case for it is simple. World news reaches Azerbaijani readers late, in another language, or not at all. Following a war, an election or a market in your own language should be ordinary, not a privilege — and no one else is doing this at this scale in Azerbaijani. Being based outside the country is part of the point: the desk sits where much of the world's news is filed, on a different clock from the readers it serves.

Our role is translation and curation, not reporting. Every story names the outlet that produced it and links straight back to the original. Where we add something of our own — the daily brief, the multi-outlet story ranking, the crisis archive — it is built from our own analysis of what the world's newsrooms are covering, and it is labelled as such.

Corrections & copyright

Headlines and summaries belong to the original publishers; we reproduce a short extract and link back, as RSS is intended to be used. If you are a publisher and would like your feed removed, or you spot a mistranslation, email us and it will be handled quickly.
