Aaron Donald is cleared to return from a back injury as the Rams prepare to face Josh Allen and the Bills on Monday night.

The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for a highly anticipated Monday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo Bills, and they’ll have one of their most important defensive players available. After missing last week’s victory over the Philadelphia Eagles with a back injury, veteran defensive lineman Aaron Donald is expected to return to the field Monday night. Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed Saturday that Donald is good to go for the team’s Week 5 matchup against Buffalo, providing Los Angeles with a major boost ahead of its meeting with one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL, Josh Allen.

The update comes after Donald returned to full participation in Friday’s practice, an encouraging development following several days of uncertainty surrounding his availability. Although the 35-year-old did not practice Saturday, McVay indicated that his absence would not prevent him from playing Monday. For Donald, the opportunity to return represents another important step in his comeback after spending more than two years away from professional football.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year announced his shocking retirement following the 2023 season, ending what many believed would be one of the greatest careers ever by a defensive lineman. Donald surprised the football world, once again, in August when he decided to return to the Rams for the 2026 season. His comeback hasn’t been without challenges.

Donald missed the team’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia while continuing to work his way back into football shape. He eventually made his return against the New York Giants, recording three tackles, including one for a loss, while playing 33 defensive snaps. The following week, Donald appeared in the Rams’ matchup against the Denver Broncos, recording one tackle and a quarterback hit.

But back soreness became an issue following that contest, forcing him to miss practice throughout the following week. Los Angeles ultimately ruled Donald out for its Week 4 matchup against Philadelphia, giving the veteran additional time to recover. Despite his absence, the Rams managed to deliver one of their most impressive defensive performances of the season.

Los Angeles defeated Philadelphia 24-20, overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit to secure an important road victory. The Rams’ defense played a significant role in the comeback, recording four sacks against Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Outside linebacker Byron Young led the way with 2½ sacks, while several other defensive linemen contributed to a strong collective effort.
