The Athletics have the worst home record in MLB despite scoring the most runs per game at home of any AL squad in the 2026 season. Per OptaSTATS, no AL team has ever finished with the most runs per game at home with the worst home record in their respective league. The Philadelphia Phillies were the last team to accomplish that feat in the National League, all the way back in 1933.
The A's' last series of the season comes at home, when they play four games against the postseason-hopeful Houston Astros. They have the opportunity to avoid making history if they win all four games, as they have the opportunity to give the Los Angeles Angels the worst home record in the American League. Their 31-46 record is three games worse than the Angels' 34-47 mark at home, so they'll have to win all four games to have a better record than their divisional opponents.
If they don't won all four games, though, the Royals have the potential to dethrone them as the highest-scoring AL team at home this year. The Royals, through 78 games, have scored 380 runs at home, meaning they have scored 4.87 runs per game at home—extremely close to the A's' 4.99 mark. If the A's end up losing a game to the Astros, a likely occurrence, then a strong season-ending series from the Royals could spare them.
The A's are currently playing the second of three years at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento while they finish constructing their stadium in Las Vegas. Sutter Health Park, traditionally a Triple-A ballpark for the Giants' affiliate, is extremely hitter friendly, with strong winds and low walls playing in the hitter's favor. As such, some of MLB's biggest stars have knocked the ball around the park for most of the last two seasons, causing unbelievable offensive output on both sides.
Additionally, the A's played six games in their Triple-A affiliate's Las Vegas ballpark this season, scoring 47 runs while conceding 55—though they won four of those games. The A's unfavorable home atmosphere isn't doing them any favors, and they'll need a miracle if they're to avoid making MLB history during their next series.
