The Los Angeles Angels have hit another new low in what has been a disastrous 2026 season. With their 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon, the Angels are officially the first team in the American League to be eliminated from playoff contention. The only MLB team who were eliminated from playoff contention before Los Angeles this season was the Colorado Rockies.
The Angels have now extended their playoff drought to 12 years, which is the longest in the league. This is also another year that Angels star Mike Trout will not be playing postseason baseball, which is a real shame. During his 16-year MLB career with the Angels, Trout has only played in the playoffs one time.
That was all the way back in 2014, but it was a very short playoff run for the Angels. This is because Los Angeles was swept by the Kansas City Royals in three games that postseason. It is hard not to feel bad for Trout, as he has had an excellent individual career but just hasn't had a good team around him.
Trout is still effective at this stage in his career, too, as he has posted 20 home runs, 22 doubles, 51 RBI, and a .243 batting average in 125 games this season. With the Angels missing the playoffs again this year, they should be looking to strengthen their roster this offseason. The clock is ticking on the Trout era, and they simply need to get him more help before it is too late.
