Republican Representative Ashley Hinson publicly broke with President Donald Trump as she called for an immediate end to the Iran war on Monday, hours before new polling was released showing her trailing Democrat Josh Turek in Iowa's U.S. Hinson, a Trump ally who was endorsed by the president ahead of the November elections, said in an X post that “Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran.” “We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices,” she said, before going on to list her suggesting, including suspending gas tax and pausing diesel exports. Trump has backed Hinson's Senate bid, writing on Truth Social earlier this month: “Ashley Hinson will be an outstanding Senator, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement.” Meanwhile, a new Marist poll released Tuesday found that 50 percent of Iowa registered voters back Hinson’s Democrat opponent Turek, compared with 42 percent for Hinson.
