The Chicago Bears are in a solid spot right now, as they have a 5-2 record and are second in the NFC East. Yet, with the NFC East having four teams all above .500, it is clear that the Bears should look to strengthen their roster ahead of the trade deadline. One specific area that Chicago should focus on upgrading is their defense.
Now, the Bears are being connected to one of the NFL's top trade candidates because of it. In a recent article for ESPN, Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen named the Bears among the top potential landing spots for Arizona Cardinals star edge rusher Josh Sweat. Sweat would be a very good addition for the Bears if acquired.
The 29-year-old has been a very impactful player in the NFL for several seasons now and could thrive playing for an exciting team on the rise like the Bears. There is also a good chance that the Cardinals will trade Sweat by the deadline. This is because the Cardinals are likely to be sellers, as they have a 2-5 record and are last in the NFC West.
If the Cardinals shop Sweat ahead of the deadline, the Bears should strongly consider pursuing him. He would add more stability to Chicago's defense, which is a need right now. In seven games this season for Arizona, Sweat has posted two sacks and 16 tackles.
This is after he had a career-high 12 sacks and recorded 30 tackles last season for the Cardinals.
