On Wednesday, Joe Burrow thought it was a "ridiculous" idea that a tight back would keep him out of the Cincinnati Bengals' Week 2 contest at the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Bengals don't seem so sure on Friday with just two days before they're set to face the Texans. On Friday, Cincinnati listed Burrow as questionable to play the Texans due to the back injury on their Week 2 injury report, throwing a curveball to the Texans.
The Bengals also listed defensive tackle B.J. Hill as questionable to play because of an Achilles injury. "I think every game is important," Burrow said, via ESPN. "I'll do what it takes to be out there. If I'm not having surgery, I'll be out there." Burrow went 25 of 35 passing for 254 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Bengals' 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
He added 20 yards rushing on five attempts, but took a hard hit in the process when running for a first down. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor didn't have a problem with Burrow trying to rush for the first down despite taking a shot in the process. "This is the NFL, and of course we want him to be safe and healthy," Taylor said, via the Bengals.
"I'm not comfortable saying don't go get the first down on third and eight, and be two yards short, and let's go for it. He's a competitor, and you take that from him, and now what do you have? You've got a guy who you're taking the stinger out of him a little bit.
I'm not I'm not about that." Taylor said he feels good about the likelihood Burrow will play the Texans. But he suggested it was possible Cincinnati could elevate Josh Johnson from the practice squad for Sunday, giving the team a third option behind Burrow and Joe Flacco.
