The Atlanta Falcons are looking for a turnaround in Madrid after losing three of their past four games. A reporter called Bijan Robinson the NFL’s best running back Thursday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Robinson has rushed for 780 yards and four touchdowns on 150 carries this season, averaging 5.2 yards per attempt.
Those numbers make his answer stand out, but his recent production helps explain why he is looking for more. He has gone four straight games without a touchdown and has not reached 100 rushing yards in any of them. Robinson finished with 76 yards on 19 carries in Sunday’s 16-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Falcons have lost three of their past four games. Their 29-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers provided a chance to build momentum, but the shutout in Tampa Bay stopped that progress. Earlier in the season, Robinson showed what a bigger performance could mean for Atlanta.
He ran for 194 yards against the Green Bay Packers and followed that with 145 against the New Orleans Saints. The Falcons won both games, and he scored two rushing touchdowns in each. His work also drew a strong endorsement from Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry.
Henry called Robinson “the best in the game right now” while speaking to reporters last month. Henry said Robinson could make defenders miss and gain yards even when a play did not develop as designed. Atlanta will need more of that production Sunday at Bernabéu Stadium.
The Bengals enter the Madrid matchup on a three-game winning streak and have scored at least 30 points in each of those victories.
