Amine Adli scored a fine free-kick to cap Bournemouth's historic 3-0 win over 10-man AC Milan, which continues their brilliant start to their first-ever European campaign. Ruben Amorim's side are far from the standard of the great Milan teams of the past but this is nonetheless a treasured scalp for Bournemouth who, for the majority of their history, could not have imagined they'd play this fixture. The seven-time European champions, humbled by the Cherries.
It was a wet and wild night on the south coast, with the weather fitting for the chaotic first half, which included Milan captain Mike Maignan being sent off for brutally pushing both hands into Tyler Adams' face at a corner. That recklessness from the goalkeeper brought Bournemouth their second penalty, which was expertly dispatched by Marcus Tavernier after Justin Kluivert had slotted in the first spot-kick following a Koni De Winter handball. Another dead-ball moment brought Bournemouth's third.
It was a wonderful whip from sub Adli - but Amorim would not have been happy with the Milan wall which broke apart to sum up their sloppiness. 'How did we end up here' was the sign on the Bournemouth banner before kick-off. Their supporters would have been in even further disbelief with their side two-up against 10 men before half-time. By full-time they were gleefully taunting Amorim, who has now failed to beat Bournemouth in five attempts.
It was a miserable return to England for the former Manchester United boss. But it's lift-off at Bournemouth now, after they recorded their first Premier League win of the season over 10-man Sunderland at the weekend and go third in the Europa League table with a perfect record of three from three. 5: PENALTY! After a VAR check, the officials spot a handball from De Winter, who had his arm up and connected with the ball when Evanilson headed wide. 8: GOAL!
Kluivert coolly sends Maignan the wrong way to side-foot into the other corner for a historic early opener for Bournemouth. Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert scored against Milan 31 years & 151 days after his father Patrick netted the winner against them in the Champions League final in May 1995. 28: RED CARD & PENALTY! Maignan is shown a straight red for shoving Adams in the face as Bournemouth send a corner into the Milan box.
After a VAR check and plenty of confusion, Bournemouth are awarded another penalty as well! Mike Maignan became the first ever Milan goalkeeper to be sent off in a major European game. 32: GOAL! Tavernier steps up this time but it's the same result - he sends replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani the wrong way to put Bournemouth into dreamland. 57: CLOSE!
