Halloween is coming a little early this year, as “Insidious: Out of the Further” is opening in theaters this weekend. The sixth entry in Sony’s horror franchise has made $3 million in Thursday previews at the box office. The new movie, which is a sequel to 2023’s “Insidious: The Red Door,” is aiming for a debut between $23 million to $27 million, which would put it in second place behind the $2 billion blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Sony will have the top two movies at the box office this weekend as “Brand New Day” is on track to add $35 million to $40 million in its fourth weekend.
All of the movies in the horror series have been low-budget hits, and overall they’ve grossed a total of $740 million globally. This weekend also sees the release of the latest Jason Statham action movie, “Mutiny,” which is aiming to open with $8 million to $10 million. It cost $40 million to produce, and Lionsgate acquired North American rights but didn’t finance the film.
There’s also the comedy “Spa Weekend,” which has a $20 million price tag and is on track to open with $3 million to $5 million. Universal and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which surpassed “Deadpool & Wolverine” as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with $1.35 billion globally, is projected to add around $15 million in its sixth week.
