The Milwaukee Brewers are parting ways with one of their infielders. The Brewers have announced that they have designated Jonathan Ornelas for assignment. In addition, the Brewers shared that outfielder Sal Frelick has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
Ornelas appeared in three games for the Brewers this season before being designated for assignment, where he recorded one RBI and a .222 batting average. He also played in six games earlier this season with the Athletics, posting a .167 batting average. Teams looking for more infield depth could consider taking a chance on Ornelas with a waiver claim.
He has some MLB experience, and it also does not hurt that he can play multiple positions. This is especially so when noting that he can also play in the outfield, which only adds to his appeal. In 41 career MLB games over four seasons split between the Texas Rangers, Athletics, and Brewers, Ornelas has posted zero home runs, four RBI, and a .203 batting average.
It will be interesting to see if another team ends up taking a chance on him from here.
