The Cleveland Browns can't ever seem to win when traveling to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the stats prove that. On Sunday, the Browns lost 27-6 to their AFC North rivals in Pittsburgh. It was an embarrassing outing on the Browns' front as Deshaun Watson threw zero touchdown passes and was sacked eight times.
The Browns also fumbled the ball twice. Cleveland fell to 5-3 on the season. With the loss, Cleveland has now lost 23 times in a row when playing in Pittsburgh.
This ties a pretty unfortunate NFL record—the most consecutive regular season road losses versus a specific team. The Detroit Lions have held the record since 2014 when they lost 23 road trips against the Green Bay Packers in a row from 1992 to '14. The last time the Browns won in Pittsburgh was on Oct. 5, 2003.
The Browns did beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh during a 2021 postseason game, but that didn't end the regular-season streak. Cleveland's still posted regular-season wins over the Steelers in that stretch of course, but they've all come at home. The Browns did go on a 12-game losing streak to the Steelers after that Oct. 5, 2003 win until they beat the Steelers on Dec. 10, 2009.
Including that win, the Browns have won 11 matchups against their rivals since the last time they won in Pittsburgh. So much has changed in both organizations since the Browns last won in Pittsburgh during the regular season, and now they'll have to wait another year to see if they can finally end the streak. Otherwise, next year, the Browns will break the NFL record and surpass the Lions' long-standing streak.
