The Arizona Cardinals are placing rookie running back Jeremiyah Love on injured reserve, according to a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. Love sustained a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's Week 8 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals' No. 3 overall pick had previously been dealing with a different ankle issue.
Love will miss at least the next four games on IR, and his absence could reportedly extend to five games. "Sources: #AZCardinals RB Jeremiyah Love is headed to Injured Reserve because of a high-ankle sprain that knocks him out 4-5 weeks. Arizona’s first-round pick has previously been dealing with a different ankle sprain," Rapoport reported on Tuesday.
Love recorded 23 yards on nine carries before exiting Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Veteran running back Tyler Allgeier stepped up in a big way following Love's departure, rushing for 147 yards and one touchdown, while reeling in five catches for an additional 44 yards and another touchdown through the air. The Cardinals are 3-5 following Week 8's stunning comeback victory over the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
This coming Sunday, they'll face off against the reigning Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks.
