The Los Angeles Chargers have some real reasons to feel good about their offense heading into the 2026 season, but the situation at guard hasn't been quite as stellar. Kayode Awosika may have just made things a little better, though. Awosika got his first chance to make an impression this preseason against the Texans, and he didn't waste it.
The 27-year-old earned a 90.1 overall PFF grade, turning in the kind of performance that can change how a coaching staff views a position battle. His work in the running game was extra strong. Awosika posted an 85.5 PFF run-blocking grade, which ranks ninth among guards who have played in the preseason so far.
He also kept the quarterback clean on all nine of his pass-blocking snaps, allowing zero pressures. For a player who entered the league as an undrafted free agent, that's a compelling audition. But, he appears to have done enough to earn additional time with the Chargers' first-team offense. Awosika doesn't need to win the job with one performance, but he has given himself a legitimate chance to do it.
Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel have stuff to sort out before the regular season arrives. At left guard, though, Awosika may be making their decision a lot easier. For now, the former undrafted free agent has done what he needed to do.
He got his time on the field, played well and made sure the Chargers couldn't simply overlook him.
