Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai has made quite the name for himself so far this season. The second-year player ranks seventh in the NFL in rushing yards with 324 he recorded in the first four games of the season. However, Monangai's hot start may be halted as the running back is now dealing with a turf toe injury, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday.
This type of injury puts Monangai's status in jeopardy for the next couple weeks. Monangai hasn't received an official designation for Sunday's rivalry game against the Green Bay Packers. Fowler noted that the running back could attempt to play through the injury.
He didn't practice on Thursday, making it seem like Monangai could miss Sunday's game, though. Even if Monangai does miss Sunday's game versus the Packers, he hopefully won't be sidelined for very long. The Bears face the Atlanta Falcons the following week, and then don't have their bye until Week 10.
It'd be shocking if Monangai missed more than two weeks of play, if he misses any time at all. Last season, Monangai rushed for 783 yards and five touchdowns on 169 carries. He's on track to surpass all of these numbers already this season.
On a positive note, Bears running back D'Andre Swift did practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice with hip and knee injuries. Swift has rushed for 311 yards and three touchdowns on 69 carries. The Bears have been bit by the injury bug this season, needless to say.
The most notable injury is to quarterback Caleb Williams as he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain during Week 2. He was ruled out for his third contest in a row. Monangai, Williams and linebacker Keyshaun Elliott were the three players listed as non-participants for Thursday's practice.
