The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Josh Simmons in the first round of the 2025 draft to be their starting left tackle for the next decade. But Simmons may flame out in Kansas City before he even finishes his second season in the NFL. The 23-year-old tackle reportedly got into a heated dispute with head coach Andy Reid before Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Both Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes advised him to leave the team meeting, and he was placed on injured reserve the following day because of a lingering back issue. Reid instructed Simmons to get treatment from the athletic trainers if he was indeed in pain. A perturbed Simmons left the room but did not leave the building.” Perhaps even more concerning than Simmons’ outburst is the fact that he’s missed 15 of 23 games since he was drafted 32nd overall two seasons ago.
In fact, things are so up in the air right now that Rapoport stated he believes Simmons has played his last down for the Chiefs. I don’t know if he plays for the Chiefs again. There’s nothing more important than protecting Patrick Mahomes.
You have to believe in the person doing it, and until that happens, I don’t know that he’s out there.” In Simmons’ absence, undrafted free agent Kahlil Benson has stepped into the starting left tackle spot. He’s played brilliantly, allowing just 16 pressures and eight hurries on 374 offensive snaps without allowing a sack across six games, according to Pro Football Focus.
