Christian Bale hung up his Batsuit in 2012, but “The Dark Knight” star is still saving lives with his Together California foster care village in Palmdale, California, which opened on Friday, according to ABC 7. The facility aims to keep siblings entering the foster care system together – a circumstance that is not always guaranteed. The community is 11,000 square feet with 12 furnished homes including two studio apartments for those transitioning out of foster care.
With over 30,000 children in the system, Los Angeles has the highest population of children in foster care in the United States. Organizers said the village will offer programs focused on stability, support and care. Bale has two children of his own, Luka and Rex Bale, with his wife Sibi Blazic.
Raising kids of his own made him wonder about the circumstances for children without parents. The pair partnered up in 2022 to do just that and create Together California. The project was made possible through donations.
The Austrian American Council West helped raise nearly $9 million for the effort. Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger was influential in bringing it to life. With the ribbon-cutting complete, organizers said people will begin moving into the community next month.
