The Southeast Asian sport of sepak takraw is a hybrid of football and volleyball in which two teams separated by a net score points by grounding a ball in their opponents’ territory without using their hands. And, as this short documentary captures, when played at a high level it’s thrilling to watch, requiring balance, precision, cooperation and acrobatic high kicks from its players. The film offers a brief window into the life of a young man named Prayad, who juggles his often stressful work as a taxi driver on the streets of Bangkok, Thailand with hard-fought sepak takraw matches among friends.
In the game, he finds facets of life many people lose as they become adults burdened by responsibilities – play, exercise and camaraderie. Directed by George Thomson and Lukas Schrank Directed by Bálint Bíró, Diego Quindere de Carvalho and Salome Razikashvili
