First for the NBA to finish its investigation, then for the Kawhi Leonard trade to go through on Sept. 14. When it did, the Clippers landed two-time All-Star Brandon Ingram, along with Gradey Dick and a bundle of draft picks. For a team starting over, Ingram looked like the safe part of the deal.
Now, there's a fresh question mark. ESPN's Brian Windhorst spoke about Ingram's health on air. "Brandon Ingram had surgery in the offseason on his foot, on his heel.
We don't have an update on how he's gonna be. We're gonna hear at media day where he's at with his heel," Windhorst said. That's not what Clippers fans wanted to hear this close to camp.
The team heads to Hawaii for training camp from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3. The surgery itself isn't new. It happened in May, when he was still with the Raptors.
Doctors removed a heel spur from his right foot, and he was expected to be ready by September. The worry comes from what happened before that. Ingram said the heel first flared up in March, and he played through the pain to help the Raptors reach the playoffs.
It caught up with him against Cleveland. He sat out Games 6 and 7 of that first-round loss. In the five games he did play, he averaged just 12 points on 32.8% shooting, well below the 21.5 points he averaged in the regular season.
