After making a splash at this year’s Cannes Film Festival — and sparking a studio bidding war that culminated in a $17 million sale from A24 — Jordan Firstman‘s film “Club Kid” has its first trailer. Firstman wrote and directed the film, which stars Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Reggie Absolom. It follows a queer party promoter, played by Firstman, who has long outgrown his time on the scene.

However, his life is upended when he suddenly meets the 10-year-old son he never knew he had, leading him to grapple with the kind of life he wants to lead. In his review out of Cannes, Variety film critic Guy Lodge wrote that “Club Kid” is a “sweet, surprisingly old-fashioned heartwarmer,” noting that the film’s opening sequence evokes the style of “Anora” director Sean Baker. Firstman, who previously appeared in “I Love LA,” “English Teacher,” “Hacks” and “Rotting in the Sun,” is widely known for his online sketch comedy.

At Cannes, sources told Variety that A24, Netflix, Searchlight Pictures, Focus Features and Mubi were the leading contenders hoping to score his sentimental festival favorite.
