The Washington Commanders are adding to quarterback Jayden Daniels' arsenal of weapons.

The Washington Commanders are doing everything they can to make sure quarterback Jayden Daniels can flourish in 2026. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Commanders are signing tight end Tre McKitty, among a recent flurry of moves. McKitty, 27, was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.

However, he struggled to establish a role for himself while recording just 16 catches for 117 yards and zero touchdowns from 2021-22. McKitty was then released by Los Angeles midway through the 2023 season and he signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad, where he would spend the rest of the season. In 2024, McKitty joined the Cleveland Browns practice squad and was even signed a reserve/future contract, but he was waived the next summer.

He earned yet another opportunity, this time with the Houston Texans. Unfortunately, the same story played out as he was waived just a week later. That is when McKitty decided to take his talents to the United Football League (UFL) and he was selected by the Louisville Kings.

During the regular season and postseason, he racked up seven catches for 130 yards. That seems to have caught the attention of Washington, at least to some extent, and he will look to take full advantage of his second chance in the NFL. McKitty joins a tight end room that already includes Chig Okonkwo, John Bates, Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff.

A native of Wesley Chapel, Florida, McKitty played college football at Florida State (2017-19) and Georgia (2020), during which he recorded 56 catches for 628 yards and three touchdowns.
