Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a familiar injury on Sunday. Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the club's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Dan Quinn. It's the second time in as many seasons that the third-year signal-caller suffered the injury, with the last one keeping him sidelined for four weeks toward the end of the regular season.
Daniels will undergo additional testing Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Commanders are expected to turn to Marcus Mariota for their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. "Once I know an update that we can move forward with, then I’ll give you that," Quinn said.
"Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his (expletive) off. We will rally so hard around Marcus (Mariota) until Jayden’s back.
That’s what we talked about as a team. Daniels' injury occurred on the final play of the first half, with replays showing just how gruesome the injury was and drawing a reaction that included an expletive from analyst Tom Brady. "I thought looking back on it, at the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns," Quinn said of the third-and-goal play-call with three seconds remaining in the second quarter.
"I don’t regret that call. Obviously any time someone’s injured, you play the 'what if' game. I don’t think this is one of those times for me.
I hate that it happened. ... I wasn’t hesitant about going into that spot. We’re going to be aggressive in this game against their offense.
