The Washington Commanders are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the San Francisco 49ers next Monday. After tying their most recent game against the New York Giants, the Commanders now have a 1-3-1 record. With this, the Commanders' next matchup against the 49ers feels like a must-win game.
Now, in preparation for their game against the 49ers, the Commanders have brought in a new running back. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Commanders have signed running back Devin Neal to their practice squad. With the Commanders needing more depth at the running back position, it makes sense that they are taking a chance on Neal.
He will now be looking to impress while on Washington's practice squad. If he does, perhaps it could open the door for him to be elevated to the Commanders' active roster in the near future. Neal was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 184th overall.
In 10 games for them last season as a rookie with New Orleans, he posted two touchdowns, 57 rushes, and 206 rushing yards. It will now be interesting to see if he gets the chance to improve upon his career stats with the Commanders from here.
