The Washington Commanders saw two players expected to contribute heavily in 2026, Rachaad White and Tim Settle, miss multiple practices over the past couple of weeks. Settle has been sidelined with a calf strain suffered during practice around two weeks ago, while White tweaked his hamstring during a joint practice with the Dolphins on Aug. 12. But on Monday, head coach Dan Quinn provided a positive update on both players, saying White is ready to return to individual drills, while Settle is set for a full return to practice and is expected to play in Washington's preseason finale against Baltimore on Friday.

White is expected to share the backfield with second-year running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, giving the Commanders a complementary one-two punch. Across four seasons in Tampa Bay, White racked up 2,656 rushing yards, 1,450 receiving yards, and 25 total touchdowns.
His best season came in 2023, when he rushed for a career-high 990 yards and six touchdowns while adding 64 catches for 549 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Settle, meanwhile, signed a three-year deal in March after two seasons in Houston. He was originally a fifth-round pick by Washington back in 2018, reuniting him with the team that drafted him.
Last season with the Texans, he appeared in 12 games, recording 15 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and a sack, before suffering a season-ending foot injury in December. Now fully healthy, he's expected to help anchor the defensive line alongside Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw, and newcomer Charles Omenihu.
