David Pollack Explains Why SEC's Era of Dominance Is 'Gone'

The SEC was the national champion in college football almost every year. That hasn't been the case recently.

David Pollack believes the SEC is not the conference it once was when teams like Alabama and Georgia were winning national titles. On Pollack's "See Ball Get Ball" podcast, he explained why the SEC's era of dominance is over. The conference has not had a team win the national title since Georgia won it all in 2022.

"The dominance was insane for such a long period of time. Yeah, that's gone," Pollack said. "I feel very confident saying that.

Listen, they've lost the last three College Football Playoffs. I mean, the Big Ten's won them all." "It's the spreading out of talent," Pollack added. "The SEC used to have all the talent compared to everybody else.

It's not like that anymore. The talent is spread across the conferences. People are going elsewhere." The three Big Ten schools that have won the last three College Football Playoff championships are Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana.

Before that, SEC schools won five of the previous six national titles. Since 2006, there have been 13 SEC schools to win college football national championships. But the three-year drought for the conference is the longest since 1999-2002, when Florida State (1999), Oklahoma (in the Big 12 in 2000), Miami (2001), and Ohio State (2002) won it all.

As Pollack mentioned, the talent is spread out among the conferences, which is one of the reasons why Indiana, a team that hasn't won the Big Ten since 1967, won its first national championship last year. With the transfer portal and NIL being a big part of college football, SEC teams don't have the same depth of talent as they did in previous years.
