Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a series sweep at the hands of the eventual-champion New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, for much of Game 1, it looked as though the Cavaliers were primed to steal a game on the road at Madison Square Garden. Cleveland held a 22-point lead over the home-team Knicks in the fourth quarter, but Jalen Brunson and his New York squad were able to erase this massive deficit and force overtime.
The Knicks outscored the Cavaliers 32-18 in the fourth quarter and 14-3 in overtime to secure a 115-104 final score. During a recent podcast appearance, Mitchell said that's the one game in his NBA career that he wants back. "If there was ever in my nine years, going on 10.
If there was ever a situation where you want a game back, I think out of all the games it's that one," Mitchell said. "You've got to give credit where credit is due. They did their job, but we definitely gave them that game." Mitchell finished Game 1 with 29 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Brunson logged a game-high 38 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. After their sweep over the Cavaliers, the Knicks went on to take down the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
