Two motorists and a bystander have been injured in northern Germany after a runaway donkey leaped inside a van and launched a kicking and biting attack, according to local police. Passersby had spotted the animal, named Freddy, alongside a horse roaming freely near a roundabout in the town of Holssel, south of the coastal city of Cuxhaven. When the drivers attempted to hold the donkey on Friday, the animal "became very aggressive" and forced its way into their vehicle.

A 33-year-old woman who stepped in to assist with restraining the equine was taken to hospital for treatment, while the two motorists received minor injuries. The disruption eventually ended when the animal's owner arrived at the scene to secure Freddy. Cuxhaven police confirmed in a statement that "The reason for the animal's aggressive reaction is still unclear."
