Eagles Make Massive QB Switch Before Week 9 vs Giants: Report

Multiple reports said Wednesday the Philadelphia Eagles are making a quarterback switch before Week 9 vs. the New York Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday that the team was sticking with quarterback Tanner McKee for the team's Week 9 matchup against the New York Giants. Just two days later, Sirianni has reportedly changed his mind. The move comes amid Philadelphia's six-game losing streak that has dropped the Eagles to the bottom of the NFC East at 2-6.

Philadelphia is without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, likely for the rest of the season, as the three-time Pro Bowler was recently diagnosed with multiple blood clots. Joe Milton III will join a growing list of Eagles quarterbacks to take the field this season. Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks called the decision "kind of a shocking move." McKee started each of Philadelphia's last three games, a stretch in which the Eagles have scored just 45 points.

The 2023 sixth-round pick has posted a 63.2 completion percentage with 638 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this season. The New England Patriots selected Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and he appeared in just one game as a rookie. Milton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in April 2025 and played in four games as Dak Prescott's backup, going 15-for-24 with 183 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Philadelphia signed Milton off the Cowboys' practice squad on Oct. 16 and Sunday will be his first NFL start. The Giants are in first place in the NFC East at 4-2-1 and coming off a Week 8 bye. New York bounced back from a Week 6 upset loss versus the New Orleans Saints at home with an overtime road win against the Houston Texans in Week 7.
