Eagles Reportedly Reach Huge Saquon Barkley Decision Before Trade Deadline

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly decided on their plans for Saquon Barkley ahead of the NFL's trade deadline.

Despite their season going south quickly, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly aren't moving Saquon Barkley. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo said Sunday morning that the Eagles won't trade Barkley ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline. The star running back has two years left on his contract worth over $35 million.

At 2-5 ahead of Sunday night's game against the Washington Commanders, the Eagles could shop other players. Yet they believe they have "plenty of talent" to bounce back next season. "That's why, according to sources, they have made it clear to teams they are not considering trading Barkley," Garafolo and Rapoport wrote.

Barkley hasn't been immune to Philadelphia's injury bug this season. The three-time Pro Bowler missed two games with a back issue before returning to register 71 yards in just 10 snaps during a Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The 29-year-old is averaging 5.7 yards per carry this season, but Barkley has settled for 261 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in five games.

He returns to a diminished offensive line that traded Cam Jurgens after Lane Johnson retired, and the Eagles shut down quarterback Jalen Hurts for the season because of blood clots. Those setbacks will make it difficult for the Eagles to rebound, and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman may have little choice but to view the organization as sellers if they lose NFC East games to the Commanders and New York Giants before the trade deadline. Yet a midseason sale won't involve Barkley, who amassed 3,696 yards and 24 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the team.

If Barkley is off the table, contenders seeking a star running back could instead pursue Jonathan Taylor. The Indianapolis Colts already opened for business by dealing Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner earlier this week.
