Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra wasn’t thrilled with small forward Myron Gardner on Wednesday night. But instead of yelling “LOOK AT WHAT YOU’VE DONE, HOLY MOTHER OF,” he’s simply telling him to “do better.” Even though Gardner only played three minutes during the Heat’s 131-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he managed to do a boat load of damage on the court by using his presence in possibly the most heinous way possible: Trash talking Anthony Edwards. One would expect not throwing harsh remarks at Minnesota’s most polarizing figure from the bench when adding a giant scoop of mediocrity to the game yourself would be common sense.
Alas… The trash talk did spark a staggering Edwards 45-point game, which didn’t end up sitting well with Spoelstra, who made sure it didn’t sit well with Gardner either. I particularly don’t want him talking trash to the other’s team’s best scorers, especially when he’s not out there. But he’s got a good heart.
He means the right thing. He’ll be better.” Following the game, it was unsure who was actually spouting the talk at Edwards, and even he didn’t know as he spoke to reporters following the game. When I start talking to him, he didn’t really have too much more to say.
I don’t really like that. If you gonna talk [expletive], keep talking [expletive]. I think that was pretty much the reason why I was super intense tonight.” When asked if it was Gardner throwing the shade, Edwards pulled a Mariah Carey.
Gardner had four points and two rebounds in the loss. The Heat face off against the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
