President Donald Trump posted a map folding Greenland and Iceland into the United States, while French politicians also protested after territories belonging to France appeared under the American flag. Trump posted the image on his Truth Social platform on Monday without explanation. Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean were daubed in the U.S. flag and labeled “United States of America.” Trump has repeatedly talked about taking control of Greenland and repeatedly floated turning Canada into America’s 51st state.

The star-spangled map was part of a wider burst of Truth Social posts over recent weeks in which Trump claimed Apple Maps had joined Google Maps in renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America,” declaring the change “complete, ratified, and binding.” During the holiday-weekend splurge, he posted a ranking of U.S. presidents with himself at the top, along with pictures generated by artificial intelligence depicting sunken Iranian ships.
