After extending their season-opening losing streak to four games with their loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Philadelphia Flyers have now added to their forward group. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Flyers have signed former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Michael Bunting to a one-year, $1.2 million contract for the 2026-27 season. Bunting was one of the NHL's top unrestricted free agents still unsigned with the regular season here.
Yet, he has now found his new home with the Flyers and will be looking to help them get things back on track from here. Bunting will also be aiming to have a bounce-back season with the Flyers. The 31-year-old winger struggled last season, as he recorded 14 goals and 33 points split between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars.
This was after he scored at least 19 goals in each of his previous four NHL seasons. Ultimately, there is no harm in the Flyers taking a chance on Bunting with this one-year deal. Their roster needs a boost right now, and it will be interesting to see if he can provide them with a spark from here.
Bunting spent two seasons with the Maple Leafs from 2021-22 to 2022-23. In 161 games with the Original Six club over that span, he posted 46 goals and 112 points. This included him scoring 23 goals and recording a career-high 63 points in 2021-22.
