The sonically adventurous Austin indie rockers Font were a Stereogum Band To Watch in 2024, and they made some very cool stylistic choices on "Texas" and "Punish Talk," the first two singles from their upcoming LP American Bully XL. That streak continues with the new song "Cling," a moody and synthy ballad that goes hard on guitar sustain and gooey, underwater keyboard sounds. The vocals are nothing alike, but "Cling" has some of the same reassuring astral drift that I hear in every Bon Iver record after For Emma, Forever Ago.
Band member Anthony Laurence says, "The song is carved away from a mountain of first thoughts, recalling a subtractive process that aims to preserve ghosts, confuse source, and respond to material rather than direct it." Check it out below. American Bully XL is out 11/13 via Acrophase.
