Forecast Moves 18 Races Towards Democrats Weeks Before Elections

Eighteen House races have shifted towards the Democrats less than four weeks before the midterm elections, according to new forecast ratings. The findings, from The Cook Political Report, shows that five races that were previously rated as toss-ups now lean Democratic. Meanwhile, four other races that were previously listed as leaning Republican are now rated as toss-ups.

The Cook Political Report now forecasts that Democrats will pick up an additional nine to 19 seats in the House, which would give them between 224 and 234 seats in total. That would allow the Democrats to surpass the 218 seats needed to secure a majority in the House. This is a developing story.
