Baylor fired Dave Aranda as its head coach, and a former Bears quarterback is ready to take over. On The Dan Patrick Show, Robert Griffin III said he would "100 percent" be Baylor's next head coach. Griffin is familiar with Baylor since he played for the school in the late 2000s.
"Yes, 100%,” Griffin said Monday on "The Dan Patrick Show." “If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn’t just respectable on the football field, but the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor. I talked with the athletic director, who is a guy in Doug McNamee that knows what it looks like to win at Baylor, know how you have to win at Baylor and recruit to Baylor to make those things happen.” Griffin played at Baylor from 2008-11. In 2011, Griffin won the Heisman after completing 72.4% of his passes for 4,293 yards, 37 touchdowns, and only six interceptions.
In 2012, Washington selected Griffin at No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft. During his rookie season, Griffin was selected to the Pro Bowl and named Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns, while rushing for 815 yards and seven TDs. He played in Washington for four seasons before joining the Cleveland Browns for one year.
Griffin then played for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018-20. Aranda had been Baylor's head coach since the start of the 2020 season. He finished 40-40 and led the program to three bowl appearances.
Aranda's best season was in 2021, when the Bears finished 12-2 and No. 5 in the AP rankings.
