The Washington Commanders are awaiting the results of Jayden Daniels' X-rays on Monday after the third-year quarterback suffered a dislocated left elbow in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The loss dropped the Commanders to 0-2 on the season. Daniels dislocated his elbow last season in Week 9.
He returned from the injury four weeks later but suffered another injury to his left elbow when trying to make a tackle after an interception in Week 14. That injury ended his season. During an appearance on "NFL on CBS" on Monday, former Tennessee Titans executive vice president and general manager Ran Carthon suggested the injury could cause the Commanders to consider a succession plan for Daniels, the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, which could come via a talented quarterback class in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Are you now looking to potentially replace Jayden Daniels? Do you now see him as someone that's not as reliable that you can keep on the field? It's just going to lead to more and more and more questions." Another question Carthon raised was whether Commanders head coach Dan Quinn could survive being on the hot seat this season.
That's another factor for Washington to consider when factoring in what to do at quarterback. A new head coach might have an opinion on whether he wants to coach a rookie quarterback or work with Daniels, who showed promise in his rookie season but has struggled in recent games amid concerns about his ability to stay on the field.
