A former New Orleans Saints player likes Tyler Shough so much that he contemplated an NFL comeback. Terron Armstead spent the first nine seasons of his 12-year career with New Orleans before retiring with the Miami Dolphins after the 2024 campaign. The five-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman is confident that the Saints have a long-term solution at quarterback.
"They have found their guy and will be for the foreseeable future," Armstead said on CBS Sports. "I'm such a Tyler Shough fan. I'm such a Tyler Shough guy.
He is everything you want from a franchise guy. He is the leader that you want. His accountability is through the roof.
His willingness to compete, his desire to win, his desire to not lose ... I'm telling you, there's no bigger fan in sports than me with Tyler Shough." The 35-year-old said his first conversation with Shough had him considering an NFL return. "I had never thought about coming out of retirement before this moment," Armstead said.
"Sitting with Tyler Shough, I'm telling you. Every negative that happened to the New Orleans Saints last year, he took ownership. It had nothing to do with him.
It was before he even played. Tyler Shough made me think about going to get an injection on this knee first, and then coming back and play ball to protect this man." Armstead isn't appearing to follow through on that thought, so he'll watch from a distance as Shough starts a potential second-year breakout. Last year's No. 40 pick has posted an NFL-leading 660 passing yards through two weeks.
