The Pittsburgh Pirates are moving on relief pitcher Camilo Doval less than two months after acquiring him from the New York Yankees. The Pirates have announced that they have designated Doval for assignment. In addition, Pittsburgh shared that they have reinstated pitcher Kirby Yates from the 15-day injured list.
With the Pirates designating Doval for assignment, he will be hitting the waiver wire. Due to this, the rest of the league will have the chance to claim him off waivers if they wish to. When noting that he is a former All-Star who has had past success, it is certainly fair to wonder if he could get picked up by another club.
Doval appeared in 20 games with the Pirates after being acquired from the Yankees, where he had a 0-1 record, a 3.79 ERA, and 23 strikeouts. This was after he had a 3-1 record and a 4.54 ERA in 44 games for the Yankees this season before being traded to Pittsburgh. It will now be interesting to see if another team takes a chance on Doval after his stints with the Yankees and Pirates.
Given the success he had during his time with the San Francisco Giants, it should not be ruled out.
