Police are searching for a person of interest after a series of stabbings in Houma, Louisiana, left at least four people dead and another person in critical condition in hospital. The Terrebonne parish sheriff’s office identified Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, as a person of interest, after deputies were initially called to the Ashland Drive area of Houma and located a juvenile with apparent stab wounds. The victim was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital and remains in critical condition.

As the investigation continued, authorities later found four deceased victims in a nearby home. Solet was previously arrested in connection with a 2019 stabbing in Houma. According to a Houma police department news release, Solet, then 40, was accused of repeatedly stabbing a 59-year-old woman at a hotel following an argument.

Solet was identified as a suspect in the case when investigators learned he was a guest in the victim’s room. Officers said the pair had got into some kind of argument and Solet stabbed the victim repeatedly in the upper body and head. She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Solet was booked at the time on one count of attempted second-degree murder. The 2019 case is separate from the current investigation. The identification of a person of interest does not constitute an arrest or criminal charge.

Authorities have not announced any charges against him in the current case. The current investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and developing information surrounding the incidents.
