Future and Drake have worked together many, many times over the years, putting together a shared catalog that includes the 2015 collaborative album What A Time To Be Alive and the #1 hits "Way 2 Sexy" and "Wait For U." Their relationship seemed to reach a breaking point a couple of years ago, when Future became an important supporting player in the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud, with Kendrick lashing out on the Future/Metro Boomin track "Like That." But now, things seem to be good between Drake and Future. Earlier this year, Future appeared on Drake's Iceman track "Ran To Atlanta." Now, Drake is back on a new Future single. Back in July, Future released The Real Me, a messy and forgettable album with no features.
Now, Future is back with "Ya Hit," a new single with three features. In addition to Drake, the song has a verse from fellow A-lister Travis Scott and a hook from the ascendant Florida rapper Loe Shimmy. It's the kind of event-style posse cut we don't get too often anymore.
I truly have no idea what's going on with that cover art. ATL Jacob and London Cyr produced "Ya Hit," a corroded smear of glitchy bass and gothy synth-tones. Future, Travis Scott and Loe Shimmy chant their parts in ways that make me think they're chasing Playboi Carti's evil, chaotic goth-rap style.
Drake, meanwhile, does Drake things, including a subliminal shot at an unidentified adversary: "Your album ain't gettin' no better/ It's done, so submit it/ You know who gettin' paid the same as your advance?/ My assistant." Listen below.
