FBI Director Kash Patel and his longtime girlfriend, country music singer Alexis Wilkins, announced Sunday that they are engaged, sharing the news with followers on social media in a post that quickly drew attention from supporters and political observers alike. Wilkins revealed the engagement in a black-and-white photograph posted to X, showing the couple smiling together as she displayed a diamond ring. "Went and got the law involved," she wrote alongside ring and heart emojis.
Patel later reposted the announcement, adding his own ring and heart emojis. The engagement marks a new chapter for a couple whose relationship has frequently attracted public scrutiny since Patel became director of the FBI in 2025. Patel, 46, and Wilkins, 27, have been together for more than three years after meeting at a party hosted by country singer John Rich.
Their relationship has occasionally made headlines amid Patel's rise in Washington. Last year, Patel forcefully rejected reports questioning his travel arrangements, including claims that he used government aircraft to attend Wilkins' performances. The FBI chief dismissed the allegations as "fake news" and defended Wilkins against what he described as baseless attacks.
Wilkins has also found herself at the center of a separate legal battle. In June, she filed a defamation lawsuit against media company Versant and two journalists over reporting she claims falsely portrayed her behavior during a social outing. The lawsuit argues the coverage damaged her reputation and presented misleading claims about her conduct.
The defendants have moved to dismiss the case, which remains pending.
