Seagate Technology Holdings plc (STX), based in Singapore, is a global data storage company specializing in mass-capacity storage solutions, with a market capitalization of approximately $175.5 billion. It develops hard drives and advanced storage platforms for consumer, cloud, enterprise, and edge markets, helping organizations manage growing data volumes driven by AI and digital transformation. Companies valued between $10 billion and $200 billion are generally classified as "large-cap stocks," and Seagate Technology comfortably fits this category.

Its market capitalization reflects its substantial size, influence, and established position within the computer hardware industry. As the world generates data at an unprecedented pace, Seagate Technology is building the storage infrastructure that keeps it accessible. Its leadership in high-capacity hard disk drives, near-duopoly with Western Digital Corporation (WDC), vertical integration, and broad HDD and SSD portfolio give the company scale, pricing leverage, and a direct foothold in the expanding cloud and AI data-storage market.

Despite its notable strengths, STX is currently 31.6% below its 52-week high of $1,145, reached on June 18, 2026.

Over the past three months, STX shares have plunged 24.1%, compared with a 17.3% decline in the Tortoise AI Infrastructure ETF (TCAI) over the same period. Shares of STX have climbed 184.4% YTD and a staggering 271% over the past 52 weeks, with both gains considerably exceeding those of TCAI, which has risen 51.9% YTD and 61.3% over the past 52 weeks. STX has remained above its 200-day moving average, signaling relative longer-term strength.

However, the stock fell below its 50-day moving average in mid-September, suggesting that short-term momentum is beginning to weaken. Seagate Technology has surged over the past year as strong quarter earnings, rising AI-driven storage demand, and growing adoption of its HAMR technology have strengthened investor expectations. On July 29, 2026, Seagate shares jumped 11.4% after the company reported that fiscal 2026 revenue increased 34.1% year over year to $12.20 billion, while non-GAAP diluted EPS jumped 92.3% to $15.58.

Free cash flow also rose sharply to $3.11 billion from $818 million. Strong demand visibility from long term customer commitments, improving margins, and expectations for continued growth have further supported the stock. In the competitive computer hardware industry, top competitor Western Digital has slightly lagged STX year to date, gaining 142%, but has outpaced STX over the past 52 weeks with a notable 304.5% gain.
