The previous record of £3.2bn, set last summer, was surpassed following another extraordinary window across the top flight. Clubs also recouped £2.2bn from player sales, contributing to a combined net spend of £1.2bn. Premier League spending has now exceeded £2bn in each of the last five summer windows, with expenditure accelerating dramatically since 2022/23.
This summer's record outlay is almost three times the amount clubs spent a decade ago, when the 2016/17 total stood at £1.2bn. The record has been broken despite Premier League clubs also generating another huge sum through sales, underlining the remarkable volume of money moving through the division. Manchester City spent a league-high £440.3m during the window, followed by Chelsea (£342.4m), Spurs (£322m) and Newcastle (£275.2m).
In terms of net spend, Liverpool topped the table with £219.4m, followed by Ipswich (£170.7m), Spurs (£164m) and Arsenal (£136.6m). Enzo Fernandez became the most expensive Premier League signing of the summer after Manchester City agreed a deal worth up to £125m with Chelsea.
Fernandez's £125m fee matches Alexander Isak's move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer as the all-time Premier League transfer record. Bradley Barcola (£123m) and Morgan Rogers (£117m) were also among the window's biggest moves, while Elliot Anderson joined Man City for £116m and Sandro Tonali joined Spurs for £100m. The scale of the market was reflected at the very top end: 20 players moved to Premier League clubs for fees of £50m or more.
