I Asked a Lip-Reader Exactly What Was Said During Val and Carrie Ann’s Off-Mic Convo on ‘DWTS’ Last Night (Exclusive)

So...what was actually said during that viral commercial-break hug?

Val Chmerkovskiy returned to the Dancing With the Stars ballroom last night following his one-week suspension—and while he experienced a blood pouch malfunction at the end of his Horror Movie Night Argentine tango with Jenna Dewan, it seems he has no bad blood with Carrie Ann Inaba. During a commercial break, Val and Carrie Ann hugged it out (just as the judge did with Val’s wife, Jenna Johnson, last week), and what followed was a lengthy off-mic convo that has everyone asking, “So…what did they say??” And because I am extra-nosy, I decided to tap Nicola Hickling, in partnership with LipReader, to figure out exactly what was said during Val and Carrie Ann’s viral exchange. After turning to the audience and telling them, “We are coworkers and we are completely cordial.

We are good, okay?” in reference to herself and Val (as you can see in this video here), the two then had their own (somewhat) private conversation. Here is what Nicola was able to interpret from the exchange. Val: “That was last week.

Tonight, I have the best feeling. Tonight’s gonna be our night. We just gotta pull together…okay?

Nothing is gonna happen to you, okay?” Carrie Ann: “I’m done with the pep talk. What would I do without you?” Val: “I know, I know. Don’t forget that.” Val: “Never forget I’m here.

I got a good feeling about us tonight.” According to Nicola, “What I found particularly interesting was how reassuring Val appeared to be throughout their conversation. His repeated comments, particularly, ‘Nothing is gonna happen to you’ and ‘Never forget I’m here,’ suggest he was trying to offer Carrie Ann reassurance and encouragement.” Nicola also adds that “Carrie Ann’s apparent response, ‘What would I do without you?’ also stood out to me, given the recent controversy surrounding Val’s suspension. Rather than a tense confrontation, the exchange appears to be a supportive conversation.” It seems like both are ready to put Val’s “Fresh Prince” reference behind them…for now, anyway!
