Amnesty International official Erika Guevara Rosas has raised alarm over the latest US sanctions against the International Criminal Court, saying they are a “reprehensible assault on the international justice system” and an “escalating campaign to intimidate the Court and obstruct its pursuit of accountability”. In a post on X, Guevara Rosas criticised the sanctioning of ICC President Tomoko Akane and Senior Trial Lawyer Abdoulaye Seye, saying the measures are “not about sovereignty”, but about “shielding powerful actors from accountability and punishing those tasked with investigating and prosecuting the gravest crimes under international law”. Sanctioning judges and prosecutors for carrying out their judicial duties is a reprehensible assault on the international justice system.
