Is Below Coming Back for Season 2?

Josh Hartnett’s Netflix thriller might rival Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay.

Between the Emmy-winning hit Widow’s Bay, the movie Whalefall, and now Below with Josh Hartnett, we should take the hint: The ocean is terrifying. But we can’t get enough of horrors lurking in the deep, because Below is currently one of the top shows on Netflix. While the streaming giant’s metrics are famously opaque, Below currently sits at number two in the top ten TV shows in the U.S. behind only Monday Night Raw.

Now that it’s Tuesday, you do the math. Sure, Below hasn’t found the same level of attention as the like-minded Apple TV hit Widow’s Bay. But the show has still come at the perfect time to help settle us into the Halloween mood.

Plus, fans are already wondering if a second season is in the cards. Here’s what we know so far about the future of Snook’s Arm. Set at a remote fishing village in Newfoundland, Below follows a middle-aged fisherman (Josh Hartnett) who fights to protect his family and his home from a monstrous sea creature with the help of a biologist, Dr.

Fonda Howander (Mackenzie Davis). While Widow’s Bay found humor in one man’s mission to revitalize a small town, Below is a more straight-faced creature thriller that muses on the existential and economic woes plaguing fishing communities. So is Below renewed for season 2?

There are no official plans for more Below. While this could change in the future, the show has not yet received an official go-ahead from Netflix for any more episodes. In the first reports about the show from February 2025, the series was billed as a six-part limited series—as in it was always meant to be a one-and-done affair.

Hartnett confirmed as much in an interview earlier this month with Variety, in which he addressed the potential for season 2 and basically shut it down. He conceded it would be interesting for a possible second season to keep on following Hartnett’s Calvin and his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) in a new setting. We’re just very pleased that people are responding to it the way they are and actually having theories and enjoying it.” If Below is ever renewed for season 2, it wouldn’t be the first time a “limited” series got a season renewal.
