The NBA preseason is underway, and while not all of the Philadelphia 76ers' stars were on the court, they defeated the defending champion New York Knicks, 120-97. Before the game, Knicks coach Mike Brown said almost all his players would be on the court, and he wasn't kidding. The starters each logged 13 or more minutes, with OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson each scoring 12 points in their limited time on the court.
Knicks starters Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges combined for 10 points. After the loss, reporters spoke with Brunson in the locker room, and he gave his honest thoughts on the Knicks ahead of what could be a tougher season with new-look teams like Philly. Not a great first step, but as long as we're making strides in the right direction, it's something to be happy about.
Still a lot for us to learn and be better at early," Brunson said postgame. More news: LeBron James’ Lingering Health Issue Raises Concern Ahead of 76ers Season It was only a preseason game, so the Knicks know that when the regular season begins, things will be a lot different. Those starters will get more meaningful minutes and have a bigger impact on the game.
Not only will they have the motivation of spoiling LeBron James' and Jaylen Brown's regular-season debuts in their first game with the 76ers, but the Knicks will also be celebrating their 2026 NBA championship at Madison Square Garden. In Monday night's loss, Philadelphia had Jaylen Brown on the court, along with starter VJ Edgecombe. Brown didn't disappoint the Philly fans who came to Xfinity Mobile Arena, playing for 17 minutes and hitting 8 of 13 shots for 22 points.
Edgecombe, entering his sophomore season in the NBA, finished with 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds in 20 minutes. The two teams get their regular season meeting in New York on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the stakes are much bigger as one team walks away with the first regular season win.
