The Los Angeles Chargers are in desperation mode after Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. To the Chargers’ credit, they played the best game of their season so far against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, but ultimately fell 30–23. Los Angeles lost to the Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, and Buffalo Bills in the first three weeks.
During those first three weeks, the Chargers had not scored more than 16 points. Much of the blame around the league has been placed on first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who teamed up with head coach Jim Harbaugh after being fired from the Miami Dolphins in January. Harbaugh said it was not, and he expects the offensive coordinator to grow into the role as the season goes on. "Like our players, like... we have skilled coaches, and we're going to keep growing," Harbaugh said. "Oh no, no... his job is not in jeopardy.
He's a skilled coach, and we’re going to keep growing." The Chargers were limited to six points in the first half on Sunday. They finished the game with more total yards (301–286) than the Seahawks. Los Angeles got decent production from the running game, finishing with 147 yards and an Omarion Hampton touchdown on nine carries.
Still, the problems with the passing game and quarterback Justin Herbert persist. Herbert finished 19 of 31 passing for 189 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Herbert entered Sunday's contest having thrown for 627 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.
His touchdown-to-interception ratio now stands at four touchdowns to six interceptions, which is uncharacteristic for the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback. The Chargers will look for their first win of the season when they next host the 2–2 Denver Broncos in Week 5. For more on the Chargers and the NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
