Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker has terrorized opposing defenses this season. The Super Bowl LX MVP entered Sunday’s game against his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, with 665 yards rushing and six touchdowns, including 100-yard performances in four of the team’s first five games. But against Seattle, Walker was stymied.
He mustered just 36 yards on 14 carries as his former team got the last laugh in a 20-3 “Sunday Night Football” win. But what Walker did after the game drew more attention than anything he did during the game. Cameras captured Walker refusing to shake hands with any of his former teammates after the game.
Instead, Walker made a beeline to the locker room without exchanging pleasantries with any Seahawks players. Walker reportedly left the Seahawks on good terms. He understood the team wasn’t willing to pay him what he could get in free agency, and Walker was content moving on and finding a starting job elsewhere.
So, why the cold shoulder? Well, Walker had his reasons. "S--t, we lost," Walker told ESPN's Nate Taylor.
I [saw] them over there celebrating and s--t. That's about it." Walker spent the first four years of his career in Seattle after being drafted in the second round in the 2022 draft. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in his first and last seasons with the team, and he parlayed his Super Bowl MVP performance into a three-year, $43.05 million contract with the Chiefs this offseason.
Seattle replaced Walker with rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price, though he’s currently on injured reserve with a chest injury. Once he’s healthy, Price is expected to form a 1-2 punch with touchdown scoring machine Zach Charbonnet.
